The Polar Bear: How to Survive an Attack                                       Go back one page

"Though bear attacks are very rare, you should still know what to do if you ever encounter an angry polar bear, because one wrong choice could cost you your life. If it begins to approach you, don't be aggressive or stare at it directly in the eye. The best thing in this case is to try and stay calm, walk away at a slow pace, and speak softly. If the bear is being defensive, you want to appear harmless, so playing dead would also be a good option. Though, none of this will work if the bear is angry, or wants you as food. In this case, you must fight back. Running won't work, since polar bears tend to be much faster."
