The Northern Lights                                                                         Go back one page

You head to the kitchen with Sura, and sit at the table where plates of steaming Arctic char await. It's so delicious that you wish you could have fished yourself so you'd have more to eat. Just as you're finishing however, a glimmering light catches your eye from outside the window! Tanya notices it too with excitement. In the night sky, arcs of red and green light shine beautifully.

"Amazing isn't it? We call those the Northern Lights, and scientists call it the Aurora Borealis. Personally, I think it is the Arctic's greatest and most beautiful spectacle. Some Inuit people believe that if you look hard enough at the light you can see your ancestors dancing in their next life. In the past, others were also scared of the Northern Lights, since they believed that the red light was a foreboding of death, and represented the blood of abused spirits."
